About this piece
The Smith Super Surger is a metal jig engineered for skip-casting into feeding frenzies (nabura-uchi). It features a low center of gravity that provides high-speed stability and increased casting distance, while intentionally reducing the falling vibration of traditional metal jigs for a more consistent action on straight retrieves. The larger hook eye accepts up to #1/0 hooks via a #6 split ring, making it versatile for targeting larger pelagic species.
Key features
- Low-center-of-gravity design for high-speed stability and castability
- Reduced falling vibration for a predictable swimming action
- Large hook eye accommodates #1/0 hooks (split ring #6 required)
- Hook-and-ring-free stock configuration allows custom rigging
- Designed for surface-skimming retrieves at 5–7 cm depth
Best for
- Yellowtail (buri) and mejiro in surface feeding frenzies
- Mahi-mahi (shiira), skipjack (katsuo), and meji
- Fast, aggressive retrieves in open water or nearshore conditions
- Anglers targeting pelagics with a compact, high-speed metal bait
