About this piece
The Smith Bottom Knock Swimmer II is a compact 30mm hard plug designed by Hiroyuki Motoyama to trigger neutral trout into striking when standard horizontal presentations fail. With a high-density tungsten weight concentrated at the head and buoyancy kept at the tail, this lure stands upright on the bottom, darts left and right when pumped, vibrates on a straight retrieve, and produces sharp darting action during twitching.
Key features
- High-density tungsten weight for stable bottom-standing posture
- Tail-up standing position maintained even in flowing water
- Horizontal swimming with slow tail-wagging on a steady retrieve
- Sharp darting action (sideways and vertical) with line-slack twitching
- Single #12 treble hook for small trout presentations
Best for
- Native trout and stream fishing
- Bottom-oriented fishing when trout ignore horizontal lures
- Managing trout ponds and controlled fishing areas
- Low-activity, pressured trout in clear water conditions
